This was good. All the feels. Grief, family, growth, environment. Despite parents bad choices or sometimes good ones, children are affected in the long run and have to figure life out for themselves. Daun & Benz grow as people and heal with each other.
This book was so good 🫶🏽 very emotional and bringing out all the feels, good and bad😭💔🥰❤️ Took you on a journey dealing with a lot of real life relatable issues and I so enjoyed. Daunari aka Daun and Benzari aka Benz ❤️ loved them 💕 who knew how the connection would really hit home until the end.. wow 😯
Benz took over the family bakery shop Nomel after her grandmother took ill. She had grew up in the shop with her granny Cookie teaching her most things, so it was an easy transition that she loved to do and took pride in running successfully. She was still trying to adjust to new way of life after her sister was killed in a car accident with her cousin and friend, while they survived, her sister Arli didn’t. She then took over parenting her niece Busy. The father Ellis wasn’t a consistent presence, so it was mostly on her. She also didn’t have a close relationship with her mother Arline, who seemed to distance herself after the death of Arli.
Daun and his brothers were out celebrating the birth of Travis new baby boy Tyler, only a week old.. and on the way home got caught up in someone shooting at them causing the brothers death. Daun took over responsibility and stepped into the role of fatherhood and began raising his son Tyler who only knew Daun as his father. And also took care of the baby’s mother Sairy aka SaySay.
It was four brothers: Travis, Daun, and twins Truck and Oak. Oak was considered special, however very smart, but had a different way of processing. Eager to get out on his own, he wanted a job and applied at Benz’s bakery. She saw something special in him and was happy to have him help her. They built a strong friendship. Daun picking him up from work had him seeing more of Benz & they initially connected because of the grief they were carrying for both siblings they lost.
We later learn how they all intertwined in the end and it was very shocking. Sunny was a very protective mother and loved how she went to battle for her family. We also learn that some family ain’t ish. Glad the cousin got her behind whooped, as she deserved more.
But the book was so good, filled with laughter and emotions and I enjoyed it all.

I didn't think anything would compare to the Porters...But, damn, this was so good!!! Started reading around 1130 pm and finishing a little after 430 am. Benz and Daun are the definition of kismet. Loved this! So happy to see "Book 1" in the title because I can't wait to hear from these characters again. Nina doesn't miss!
