This mystery, set in Edinburgh, is all about child abductions and PTSD. Major trigger warnings. The first in the Inspector Rebus series, John Rebus is a flawed human, suffering privately from PTSD and serving as a Detective Sergeant. Rankin gets the characterizations spot on, even to the near teen daughter. There were some loose ends in the personal life, that I trust will play out in upcoming stories. Very British/Scottish, to the point that some references went over my head.
