After being used as a pawn by her parents and plunged into scandal by her husband, Lady Margaret finds refuge in the Wicked Widows League. Attending masquerades, pretending to be a courtesan, she leads men on and then disappears. She learns she’s playing a dangerous game when a disreputable lord becomes obsessed with her. Planning one last masquerade before retreating to her country estate, she finds herself with a man who could threaten her heart. Simon, Lord Hayward, is also being manipulated by his family into a sham marriage. When he meets the masked Meg, he’s immediately smitten. Determined to win her over, he pursues her. After the masks come off, they realize their prior connection to each other. With secrets, scandals, family interference, and a healthy dose of danger between them, can Meg and Simon find a way to happiness?

This is a sweet second chance romance between Meg and Simon. Simon had been on the verge of proposing to Meg when her parents forced her to marry someone else. The connection between them while masked burns brightly making their realization of the other’s identity especially satisfying. I really enjoyed how her friends conspired with him to get them together. I also loved the inclusion of Paddy and family from Ms. Wynne’s Paddy’s Peelers series as side characters. Meg’s tenants and staff were wonderful additions and their devotion to her showed true love and respect to a character who was devalued by her own family. Another lovely romance from Ms. Wynne.
