Solid 4-star rating; it would be 4.5 if I could give it that. I enjoyed reading this story for a few reasons. First, the romantic pair were not typical. They didn't follow the standard. And by this, I mean Mary rarely acted as I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. But that's not to say that she didn't have the typical moments of "don't worry so much about me, I will be fine".... no matter how many times I read that in a book, I look forward to seeing how they get into trouble because they just jinxed themselves. And Mary did not disappoint. Does that make me pessimistic?
And now, moving on to King. Where do I start with him? He contradicted most Alpha males in protector romance books and took it to the next level. And the support/not support of his team was an excellent addition. There were moments when we saw how this team would do in the name of brotherhood, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the team unfolds.
My only issue with the book, which is my issue alone and not the author's fault, is the POV in which it was written. I am just not used to how Rayne decided to switch between characters amid the chapters, and it has been quite a bit since I have read a book that way. It took me a little to get used to because I would have to switch on who was projecting their thoughts. However, I adapted quickly and was able to enjoy the story.
Overall, incredible story, and I have officially added the remaining books to my library and am excited to read about how to rest of HellForce Security falls in love.
