She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her "happily ever after" begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill, but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect! Well, perfect except that the phone's owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn't agree. He wants his phone back and doesn't appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life. OMG, guys, you have to read this book! As per usual, Sophie Kinsella totally blew my mind with her writing!
This book was a romp! I hadn't read Kinsella before, but I will definitely look for other books. The premise of this book was like a British comedy sketch... a young physical therapist loses her engagement ring at a hotel party during a fire alarm, gets her cell phone stolen as she is sitting on the curb and fortuitously spots a cell phone in the garbage on her way back in to look for the ring AGAIN. The phone ends up connecting her unwittingly to corporate backstabbing and a whole cast of characters she identifies from the tone of their texts and emails. Poppy's life gets increasingly complicated, but she manages to face everything with the plucky aplomb you'd expect of a modern British 20-something. Hilariously told partially through text messages sent back and from from Poppy and Sam, the ostensible owner of the cell phone (as the boss of the former employee who tossed the company phone in the trash).
