It's hard when a book doesn't live up to the expectations set out... 3.5 stars
First, I want to say that despite the fact that it is compared to the "Girl on the Train".... It's really not. I much preferred "Girl on the Train" to this. Into the Water has too many characters with multiple time changes making it a challenge for the reader to follow the story in a fluid manner. I really wanted to like this more, but did find the last part a quick summarization of what reader most likely concluded on their own at the end of part three. So, it was more like an epilogue.
