This is still one of the strongest examples of how to create a tale about vampires and have it straddle somewhere between immortals that are both brutal and heartbreaking. This isn’t my favorite of the series. In fact, I only read the first five books years ago and never got around to any of the others. I’m interested to see how the story developed after I stopped reading. But, first, I need to reread the others since it’s been so long. Strong start!
