OMG. This is a masterpiece. I have no coherent words right now, but I will come back to leave a more detailed review.
For now, I'll leave this quote. It will forever live in my mind.
"When you sacrificed other people's children on the altar of your own ambitions, it's only a matter of time before you'll be willing to sacrifice your own."
*This could be read without first reading quartet (An Ember in the Ashes) but if you do, beware that there are spoilers in Heir.*

i read the book as it was selected in the book club i joined. i hated the book to start with. it was slow, i didn't understand it, and i couldn't relate. I had no idea it was a part of a series or had a lot of back story. however, as I read it, the characters became complex and their background predictable. the relationships between the characters were intriguing, and in the end, I wanted to know what happens next.
