Who would ever think that an educated, wealthy obese agoraphobe and a teenage baseball prodigy from Yonkers would have anything in common? Well, they do and this book is a wonderful story about just that and so much more. I don't know how author Liz Moore gets inside the mind of a teenage baseball star living with his single, alcoholic mom or a mid life obese man but she does. I felt like all the characters were talking to me. I loved how the story was told; first from Arthur and then from Kel. As the story progressed, the narration flowed easily between the two voices. Moore takes her time revealing all the back story but it's not slow. It is a lovely story about misfits. At times, it was sad and heart breaking and other times hopeful. I wanted to savor this book. I only gave 4 stars because I wanted a different ending. I don't need books to wrap up all nice and pretty with a bow, but I wanted to see some things with Kel and Arthur that I didn't.
