Green River Killer: A True Detective Story

The hype is overblown for sure. It's not bad at all and an interesting enough story, but not much more than that. It's just about engaging enough. A detective follows a single serial killer case. He gets nowhere. Soon DNA tools are good enough to get DNA from the evidence without destroying the DNA and they find out one of the 10K suspects is the one. They arrest him and interview him and he can't really recall where he buried the bodies and so the detective gets angry and says he may not be the guy they are searching for. There is not much else here. No actual detective work. We never see how the DNA stuff works. It's basically solved by magic.

The comic is without colors so I actually initially thought the smoking White guy killer was the same as the smoking police officer. They looked the same and acted the same. And the story is told via flashbacks randomly jumping all over the place. It took some time to get by bearing. But often you'll jump back or forward 5 years in time and get confused. What is happening and why? The drawings are so crude the aging is not that clear so I can't really see where I'm at. There are small clues, but not enough. It's basically pointlessly confusing.

Overall it's a mess. This is how much detective work is. You play detective and find nothing until some new DNA tool comes about. Overall quite weak. Definitely way below the best true crime comic books. But not bad at all compared to how many bad comic books are out there. I would say it's just barely good enough to be sorta in your pile of read later. But there are so few details it feels a tad pointless at times.
