Goodnight Mister Tom

I think this is a beautiful piece of literature with beautiful characters. I remember liking the book when I studied it at school as a teenager, but I couldn't remember many details. I just finished reading it with my nine year old. It was a great discussion starter for what life was like in the UK during the war, and what life was like, in general, back then. There was one section that she found "too sad", but the happy events that followed, and the positive way the protagonist deals with his emotions, helped her to recover from that chapter.
