Good Bad Girl: A Novel

THE INSTANT USA TODAY BESTSELLER!!
Sometimes bad things happen to good people, so good people have to do bad things.

Queen of Twists, bestselling author of Daisy Darker and Rock Paper Scissors Alice Feeney, returns with another thrilling mystery filled with drama and her trademark surprises.

Twenty years after a baby is stolen from a stroller, a woman is murdered in a care home. The two crimes are somehow linked, and a good bad girl may be the key to discovering the truth.

Edith may have been tricked into a nursing home, but at eighty-years-young, she’s planning her escape. Patience works there, cleaning messes and bonding with Edith, a kindred spirit. But Patience is lying to Edith about almost everything.

Edith’s own daughter, Clio, won’t speak to her. And someone new is about to knock on Clio’s door…and their intentions aren’t good.

With every reason to distrust each other, the women must solve a mystery with three suspects, two murders, and one victim. If they do, they might just find out what happened to the baby who disappeared, the mother who lost her, and the connections that bind them.

In the style of Daisy Darker and Rock Paper Scissors, Good Bad Girl is a thriller in which nobody can be trusted and the twists come fast and furious.

Barbara's pick. 👍🏻 A psychological thriller/murder mystery that starts with a stolen baby.

I have read all of Alice Feeney's books and this is another story full of twists and secrets, but I don't think it's as dark as the others. In some ways, it reminded me of a Lisa Jewell book because the characters are so connected (you slowly find out all the connections) and there were some quirky nuances & language.
The four main characters are women. Edith (80) lives in a nursing home, tricked into living there by her daughter. Clio (50's) is a therapist & Edith's estranged daughter; she is forced back into her life when a stranger comes to her practice. Frankie (mid 30's) is a prison librarian whose daughter ran away one year ago. Patience (18) works at the nursing home and has a bond with Edith. They are all unreliable narrators and have no reason to trust each other. They are all confronted with a mystery they may not want to solve. Twenty years after a baby is stolen from a stroller in a grocery store, a woman is killed. These crimes are somehow linked. Will they work together to solve the crime/mystery or continue to lie and deceive?

I really enjoyed the short chapters, alternating POV's, and fast pace. Alice Feeney does it again-she will keep you guessing right up until the end.

This was a good mystery/thriller. The main characters are Edith, a care home resident, her daughter, Chloe, and Patience, a young woman who works at the care home. When Joy, the surly caretaker of the care home is found murdered, the detectives begin to investigate and look at all the main characters as possible suspects. There is also Mr. Kennedy, who runs a local art gallery and gives Patience a place to live in the attic of his shop in return for some of her beautiful paper cut artwork.

The story starts off with the description of a child abduction that had occurred nearly 20 years ago. How are all these characters related?

Feeney is always good

This was a bit of a departure from Feeney’s usual thriller style. A bit tame but still it was an enjoyable read.
