PFS Book Club --- 14th Dec 24 On 14th December we discussed “Gitanjali” in hindi by Rabindranath Tagore. Word Gitanjali I googled and meaning is song ( gita) offer with utmost devotion ( Anjali). Gitanjali is collection of poems written in Bengali and translated to English by Rabindranath Tagore himself which got noble prize. This book explores spirituality, devotion and connection between divine and human experiences. Jaishree read many poems in hindi which reflects deep love for god. Many poems express relationship with god, depicted as a lover. Jaishree mentioned that in Gitanjali relationship with god is described through poems not with fear but with space of love as beloved. This even Guru mentioned (in todays session) that in gurugrantha sahib also relationship with god is as lover but not because of fear of god. The verse which I cant forget ( though it sounds more nice in hindi). When I come to you to ask for my good, I fear if my prayer become granted. One more was that you are the supreme in my life, there is no other wealth as precious as you. Jaishree mentioned about one poem where it was explained that god has set him free and there are no expectations and demands. Even if he don’t think of god, god will love him back. Jaishree read many hindi poems with philosophical understanding. And the way she explained each poem with deep understanding of relationship was god was beyond words. Thanks, Jaishree, for such an amazing session and expanding our genre.
