Audio book source: Libby [Library Borrow] Story Rating: 5 stars Narrators: Sean Crisden and Adenrele Ojo Narration Rating: 3 stars Genre: Contemporary romance Tropes: College Romance, Enemies to Lovers, Dual POV, GA and Student Relationship, Grief, Parental Loss, Panic Attacks, War Stories [off-page] CCJ has been a favorite of mine since I came across Relationship Goals last year, and I am super excited to be jumping back into her catalog. Synopsis From Good Reads: When 26 year old Reese accepts a position as a grad assistant, she has no idea an unpleasant encounter with a student will lead to the discovery of what she calls “the trifecta”: fine, intellectual, and a little bit rude – three qualities she finds irresistible in a man. She has no intention of doing anything with that discovery – nothing long term, at least. But everybody knows what happens to best laid plans. Jason is a grown man. 28 years old, seasoned and scarred by his real-life experience in the world, he’s at Blakewood State University to finish his degree and move on. The last thing he’s interested in is the female population on campus… but sexy, infuriating Reese might be a notable exception. This isn’t a story of opposites attract. More like counterparts clash. Neither of them is afraid to do battle, and neither is willing to back down. Love and war, win or lose… somebody’s gonna end up getting schooled. What worked for me: As mentioned, CCJ is definitely a favorite of mine. I loved the detail and depth surrounding our main characters Reese and Jason; she definitely approaches their characteristics with a more that meets the eye type of vibe. I adored the connection between Imara [ i believe this was the mom’s name ] and Big Joe – to see them adapt after losing their partners and find love again, in each other was so beautiful. Of course, I loved the connection between Jason and Reese as well, although it seems like they aren’t a match and will consistently but heads, they knew what would work for them. Each battling with their own “short-coming” as they may describe it themselves. Reese has panic attacks associated to her father’s passing and Jason has a prosthetic leg - which he feels gets him waaaaayyy to much pity pussy. BUT them together, the way they balanced each other out was so nice to witness. What could be better: Im not going to lie, I was not feeling the female narrator this go around – listening to it on a 1.00 speed sounded like she was reading one word at a time – I finished in 2 days on a 1.75 speed.
