This was too short to even come close to being enjoyable.
The whole misunderstanding was based on a SIGH. Maybe it is because I'm older now, but I really hated Charlotte's constant whining about being "on the shelf" and a "spinster" at the age of 18. (And in a novella this short, mentioning it more than once was overkill.) I know girls were married young at the turn of the century, but 18 was in no way in her dotage.
