Geekerella: A Fangirl Fairy Tale (Once Upon A Con)
Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale romance--now in paperback, with a special Starfield bonus scene!
Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad's old costume), Elle's determined to win...unless her stepsisters get there first. Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons--before he was famous. Now they're nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he's ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake--until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

Okay, obviously I loved the geek aspect of this. Seeing people dressed as Deadpool, Ewoks, Harry Potter and the like just makes me giddy with fangirl happiness. It's like this book was more of a letter to every mega fan slash geek out there, letting us know it's okay to be weird and enjoy this stuff. It's almost like a personal little note to each reader, and I love that!
This book has a coming of age quality to it, and I adore it so much. Connecting with Elle wasn't hard. She's down to earth, trying to be a teenager with a cranky stepmom and the Wicked Witch as a stepsister, all the while dealing with love and finding out who she is. I felt like a part of me was that character, and I wasn't expecting to get that reaction from this story.
Darien is the cutest geek boy slash actor man out there. I fell in love with how adorable he was. Here he is, wanting to make a spin-off movie on one of his favorite shows the best it can be while dealing with fans of all levels. He's such a normal guy with fears, loss, and finding his own way as Darien and the Federation Prince Carmindor.
Basically, I love how this story is all about being yourself and loving who you are. Sticking up for what you believe and love in. I totally dig it, and there is no doubt this story will stick with me.
Sage. Sage is my spirit animal.
Also, the pumpkin is a vegan food truck and my life is complete with this knowledge.
The Bad:
The whole bad stepmom-sister fell through. I mean...
