I can see why others have likened this book to Rebecca, it has a similar sinister undertone. You feel the ripples of something dark penetrating every page, without really knowing what caused it.
I feel for the central character, but I also felt a distance from Nell. Like we weren't really being allowed to know the real her. I felt like I was banging on the door begging to be let in so I could understand. I was unsure how much of her story we could trust, and as we primarily had her view only of the other characters, that also made them feel unknowable.
I liked the odd chapter we got from Meagan. Gave an interesting perspective. As she didn't know the truth either though, I still felt in the dark. It kept me reading, trying to get to the heart of it all, but not sure I ever did.
I enjoyed the writing style, and the language choices really added to the chilling feeling.
