I usually pick a portion of text that I feel sum up the book nicely but I don’t think one paragraph, sentence or quote would do this particular book justice. I will however sum it up in a few words; Timely, beautifully written and honouring. This book follows a group of Black British friends as they navigate through life in all its fluctuations - love, heartache, discrimination, misdiagnoses, friendship, grief, community, loneliness, mental heath, Faith. Through each of these short stories we learn about the characters, where they’re currently at, and their battles. I love that each short story was relatable and explored what most of us have gone through first hand or have had those close to us go through. To read this book is to feel seen. Some stories had me cracking up, some had me remembering those who have passed on - Gran❤️ - and some had me thinking about the importance of showing up for those I love. Thank you for this book Shani. - maybe one day I’ll attempt to make roti😅
