The true beauty of this book lies in its honesty. The voices included in this collection are diverse and unique in their perspectives of the fat queer experience. They're each so important to hear. There were chapters so relatable I felt I was reading from the book of my own life! Meanwhile, others shared experiences unfamiliar to me but which struck a chord all the same.
These writers truly lay bare their feelings and reflections about themselves and the fatphobic culture in which we live. There's a lot of heartache and struggle, but also a lot of resilience, love, and acceptance. My favorites are the ones which from the get-go subvert our society's expectations about how a fat person, especially a fat queer person, should be navigating life.
While some of the pieces in this anthology are more enjoyable to read than others, I'm so grateful I was introduced to this book. It's such an important anthology and I believe it should be a required reading for people of all sizes.
