I checked this one out from the library and then procrastinated reading it for weeks because I was worried (lol) that everyone would be right and this would be realistic portrayal of mental illness. And that is exactly what happened. This book made me feel seen in an incredible way I don't think I have ever experienced before. The depiction of the rumination, thought spirals, exhaustion and panic that come with depression and anxiety was so true to my own experience. The stream of consciouness style really lends itself beautifully to immersing yourself in Gilda's thoughts and feelings. There were a couple times while reading this that I found myself back the headspace of when my mental health was at its worst which was beautiful but also terrifying.

If you are a fan of Sally Rooney I think you will enjoy this. I want everyone I know to read this book but I will never read it again.

As much as I related to Gilda's death anxieties, I also found her deeply frustrating.

An instant classic! Perhaps one of the most insightful, well-written, and fundamentally human books to have ever graced by shelf! I cried, I laughed, and I simply felt on every single page. Austin has captured the incredible confusion of being alive at all angles, from the depressing to the uplifting and everything in between. The characters are rich and engaging, our protagonist is relatable as heck (I for one had experienced say about 98% of everything she did; I'm even a lesbian to top it all off, though I believe there is something for everyone, straight, religious, or otherwise to experience and learn from this stupendous read), and the story is fast-paced and does not overstay its welcome. A must-read! For who? For everyone! Grab it and go! It may just change your view on life. Who knows, it changed mine.
