General Lee attacks the North. The Confederate army is starving. A huge part of them don't have shoes so they need to attack the North to actually continue fighting. This deals a giant blow to the Federal army as they keep attacking and the Confederate army shoots them down. Yet at one point while they are decimating the Union army a commander tells his force to retreat as he misunderstood and order. Their line is broken here in Maryland. McClellan also gets hold of Lee's battle plans. He can wipe out the Southern army this moment. Yet even though the Southern army is stretched thin and weak ready to be demolished he holds back, as always. Despite Lincoln commanding him to attack. McClellan then lies about what he did what day and what his orders were. So the war continues for 2 more years.

Lincoln frees all slaves, in principle. It forces Europe to refuse to work with the Confederacy now as the war is about slavery. Meanwhile his army still refuses Black soldiers despite using them in the navy.
