Totally not what I was expecting. A quick but heavy read. Left a lot to the imagination which was good.
The story centers on Eleanor Oliphant, a social misfit with a traumatic past who becomes enamored with a singer, whom she believes she is destined to be. The novel deals with themes of isolation and loneliness and depicts Eleanor's transformational journey towards a fuller understanding of self and life.
As you might expect, the book is mainly about Eleanor's journey to reintegrate herself into society. Despite its somewhat dark premise of a woman with a mental illness who has suffered abuse, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is actually a lighthearted and rather heartwarming story.

While a lot of readers speak highly about this book, I really don't understand the hype for this rather clichéd, superficial, unrealistic book.

Took a while to warm to this- Eleanor is like a cross between Ove and Sheldon, except completely unlikeable. Then you begin to discover there may be a very good reason for this, and she breaks down your defenses and you start to root for her. Many of of her observations were completely accurate if Iâm being honest, particularly the ones about literacy or a lack thereof. Her relationship with Raymond was cathartic and beautifully depicted. Iâve never seen a character with this great an ability to compartmentalize, and the story unfolded in the most interesting way.
