One December night, a dead body lies on the floor of a luxury hotel room in the Swiss Alps. The police investigation will never come to an end, and as time passes everyone will forget what happened. Years later, the writer Joël Dicker arrives at that same hotel to recover from a broken heart. Yet he has no idea that he will end up investigating the old crime, and he will not do it alone: Scarlett, the beautiful guest and aspiring novelist in the room next door will accompany him on the search while also trying to learn the keys to writing a good book.

What happened that night at the Palace of Verbier? That is the big question in this devilish thriller, built with the precision of a Swiss watch. Joël Dicker finally takes us to his native country to narrate a police investigation that mixes a love triangle, power games, betrayals, and envy in a not-so-calm Switzerland, where the truth is very different from anything we could have imagined.
