This was the first book from this author and I have to say it wasn't a bad introduction! This was also an ugly duckling retelling and I've been lately getting into fairytale retellings (and not finding any worthy ones).

⚠️ There are triggers such as sexual assault, graphic violence and knife play. And there was this one scene where Wren knew that one of the guys from the harem was going have sex with another girl he has a purely sexual relationship with. That might be a trigger as well

I thought this was a stand-alone but halfway through the book the pace wasn't getting any faster so that's when I knew there's a sequel to this, especially since the book ended in a cliffhanger.

This book does have mafia and reverse harem tropes but the mafia aspect was explored only in the last chapter so I'd say it is non existent. As for the reverse harem aspect, Wren only got her one on one with the guys (Havoc, Hush, Phoenix and Kodiak) but never with everyone as a whole so that wasn't developed either. There is an MM couple within the harem with most of them being older than Wren.

My favourite guy has to be Hush because he's a man of few words but says the correct words every time. And my least liked is Havoc because he's way too bubbly for my liking, like every time he babbled I was just speed reading his words. I have nothing to say about the other two because they weren't given as much spotlight as much as the H brothers.

I do understand Wren's trauma and why she chose to live her life without talking, initially it was frustrating but after she revealed the whole trauma she's facing it made me understand her. This book does have smut but it wasn't spicy to me particularly, maybe my expectations of smut are sky high now.

What made me rate this three stars was because of the slow pace of the book. There really wasn't much to this book other than Wren's individual interactions with the harem. But I'll be reading the second book because the cliffhanger kept me interested enough to want to know more.
