I’m scared to give this book 5 stars, mostly because if you read it you may wonder about the state of my mental health.

In all seriousness after reading this book, I was also concerned for my mental health.

This surprising and sometimes shocking novel begins innocently with a pair of elementary age cousins playing make believe. Then the world intrudes on their innocence and we rejoin them as adults in an exploration of cultural norms and response to trauma laced with almost dreamlike sequences of mutual action in the world that they create together. This one is leaving me with lots to ponder about the structure of our human culture.
