What a great story! I knew from minute 48 in the audiobook that this was going to be high stars.
Relationship building and angst is the first half of the book.
Darby and Kellen meet in Ireland when they're about 8, and it's instant obsession for Kellen and instant fascination for Darby. She is the only one he is friends with, and he is the only one she's friends with when she visits Ireland from the US. Eventually, she stops visiting until her grandfather's funeral when she's 20. Eventually, they find each other during this visit, and what was a juvenile friendship spark turns into adult hot chemistry.
Kellen's work as the Irish mob's top hitman catches up to them, and the last half of the book is action and overcoming trauma to reach mature love.
It's an HEA. The final chapter is an epilogue of sorts, and it is very satisfying.
The characters both have trauma around sex and they don't have a lot of it or do anything smutty. The sex they do have is very romantic. I'm counting the first time they have sex as Kellen's first time. I'm giving it 🌶1/5 chilis on the spicy scale, but the story makes up for it.
I listened to the audiobook, and it's awesome. Eric Nolan’s Irish accent is 🔥 its dual narration, 2 POVs, 2 narrators, first person.
