Slow moving but the ending came on really fast. Aphrodite bleeds blood from her eyes now when she has her visions. Steve Rae still loves her bird/man, Rephaim. He has father issues and the desire for his dad's love. The twins broke up. Zoey is still with Stark who now has night mares and can't get a good nights sleep. Zoey's mom was murdered...by Neferet...surprise. surprise. Oh did I mention Neferet had Heath's body become the new White Bull (Aurox) who is a gift to Neferet from the Darkness who Neferet is dying to get as her consort (lover-boy). She orders Aurox to disrupt the ritual of "how Zoey's mom died" so they don't see her knocking on the door, and sliting mom's throat, having these black tendrils suck the blood out of her and thus, making an offering to theDarkness to gift her a "the white bull" to do her beckoning.

They all discover the secret, Zoey sees Aurox is really Heath and protects him, Dragon dies trying to fight the bull and gets skewered in the process while protecting Rephaim. Kalona is so overwhelmed with grief when he sees Rephaim slain and dying, he apologizes to Rephaim and cries. It seems his true tears repairs the extensive damages Rephaim sustained and is magically cured and saved from death.

Kalona then offers himself to be the new "Death Warrior" taking Dragon's place to protect the school and the students. Thanatos will now be the new High Priestess, and she is Death. Neferet has been dethroned BUT, Kalona tells them, Neferet has indeed joined forces with Darkness.

The only exciting part really starts going as they head out to grandma's house to do the ritual (page 280 in the hardcover edition).

I really dislike everything about all of this lol but again I’ve come this far and I’ve got to see it through

Alright. So, I'm a fan of the series. I loved all 8! but this book was just... Horrible. Heath is back. Don't get me wrong he was awesome in the other 8 books because he added to the drama, but he died! he doesn't need to come back as a weird hollow thing that turns into a bull when he sucks in other vamps emotions. Its also considerably lacking in something. I haven't really caught onto what its lacking but its something. It just seems a bit fast with basically no awesome action and not much romance. Now, Kalona. Its so weird him being all nice now because of his son Rephaim being in love with Stevie Rae. So, that kinda takes out the fun. Neferet is the same (no surprise there). At least the twins are actually not being so twin-like near the end. Oh, and we got a new fledgling hoping on in the HON books. A weird blind girl who gets turned by Erik and ends up seeing peoples aura-type things. Again its just missing some of the aspects as the last books: action, romance, drama. Its has little drama but not enough to keep me interested. Usually when I read these books I finish it after a day or two. It took me 5 days to finish this! I was soooo bored with it and it feeling so short didn't help either. Another cliffhanger. (Surprised much?) whats going to happen in the next 3 books I don't know but I will read those just because I'm curious to how Neferet dies.
