Desperation

Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. Miners at the China Pit have accidentally broken into another dimension and released a horrific creature known as Tak, who takes human form by hijacking some of the town's residents. The forces of good orchestrate a confrontation between this ancient evil and a group of unsuspecting travelers who are lured to the dying town. This rag-tag band of unwilling champions is led by a young boy who speaks to God.

I picked this book up for bookclub. I had read many of the books by this author in the past, but it had been a long time. I had heard this book was very scary.
I found this book just OK. It was wordy and had a lot of editing issues. The story was OK, not fantastic. A few things were just confusing.
I would recommend this to horror fans, but it wasn't especially unique. I could see most of it coming.

Without giving too much away, this is one of the most memorable books I read as a young adult. There was so much suspense and so much weirdness. I loved it.
This was so excruciatingly boring that it takes me one step closer to never reading another Stephen King book ever again.
The Shining was just okay. Under the Dome sucks, DNF. Joyland was stupid. And now, Desperation was boring? Maybe I'll just stick to his short stories collections.
If I wanted to read a horror christian book I would just read the Bible, not this.
The horror/supernatural aspects were so badly written and honestly, just lame. Couldn't even care about the characters enough to like or hate them (I just finished it and already don't remember their names).
Took everything from me to get to the end. Overall, just a bad experience.
