A glimpse into Ali’s life and upbringing. You don’t need to be a fan of her as a comedian to enjoy this book. I don’t watch standup and still enjoyed this book.
Ali is one astute woman. This book is such a retrospective now that she is divorced. I think her advice to her daughters still stands true, despite her own conviction that her daughters should also marry an Asian man when now she's dating a white comedian. It is rather bittersweet that her ex husband was even featured in a chapter at the end of the book.
The concept of sharing your life before children, in order to preserve honest memories, is just endearing to me. I loved that part. The raw details of some of Ali Wong's life made me laugh, and cringe. Stronger language than I am used to, however, good to know should the opportunity to see her in action on stage happens in my future.
I was kinda torn on this one. There were definitely some funny moments, but then also I didn’t realize it was for her daughters…thought it was just “any girl” and it although it’s a memoir I felt like parts feel specifically for her daughters which is nice but I think it should have just been just for them vice versa for her audience.
I don’t know if if recommend it to all. And then when I looked up interviews for book since it came out a bit ago I find out her and her husband are now divorced.
Overall thought it was ok! If you are a big fan of her to start you will like it !
