Ever bit as gruesome and satisfying as Gone Girl. I don't recommend this to anyone with a weak stomach or an easily broken heart. Mothers our there, BEWARE! I would give this book an easy - but I like a dark and twisty story.
It's a compulsive read...you want to put it down- when it turns darker, and sicker, and more and more pathetic - but you simply cannot stop reading.
I normally don't take the time to write a review as I'm usually already on to the next book by the time I update my GoodReads bookshelves, but this one is the exception! Awesome writing, great characterizations and terrific storyline. I love books told from the perspectives of several characters--provided it's done right--and it's easy to see why Ms. Flynn is the recipient of book awards. She is the reason readers like me look forward to settling down in the evening or on the weekend with a good book. I'd have to say this was my favorite book for the past 12 months!
I have to say I’ve really become a Gillian Flynn fan, especially with this book. This story tells the tale of Libby Day in the present and she struggles to do daily tasks and do adult things after her mother and two sisters were murdered. As a 7 year old child when this tragedy occurs, the only thing Libby can remember is that she saw a light on in her brother Ben’s room and she knows that Ben was the killer. That’s why she testified and accused Ben of their murders. Now Libby finds herself with no money, no job prospects as she can’t fully function since that night, and receives a letter from a man named Lyle to come and speak at a murder fan club for a sum of money. Libby decides to take him up on this offer, since she need to cash desperately, and upon meeting the others within the group finds out that there are several people that are on Ben’s side and believe he’s innocent. Now Libby decides to slowly unravel the things that she held tucked away in the dark place as she wonders if her brother Ben, might be innocent after all.
I also started this book as an audiobook on my commute to and fro from work and ended up borrowing the ebook from the library so I could finish it over the weekend, because I found myself hooked! This certainly holds up to a gritty thriller that Gillian Flynn is really good at providing and will have you attempting to figure out what has happened, along with twists and turns in between. An excellent read!
