This story made me want to cry at the end. I could relate so much with both girls and just love that even though they are from different worlds, they still lived the same experiences at times. The grief in this book was a bit hard for me, but it could be due to personal relationships with my own family.
This book was beautifully written and the audio was just so good. It evoked a lot of emotions.
As someone who was raised in the Caribbean and moved to the US, the last few pages of this book touched me so deeply. I cried. A LOT. So, five stars.
What a great author. The audiobook narrator were also amazing. A completely different feel and yet all the same from her other books. So good.
This book was stunning and powerful.
I haven't felt so connected to a story line and characters like this in a long time.
Two sisters coming from the same father growing up on separate parts of the world and not knowing about each other.
Due to a horrible accident they are brought to the knowledge of each other. Getting to know each of them on both sides of the coast, the one living on the island and the one in New York, the details rich and deep. Elizabeth Acevedo really broke down the character's voice in each, making them wholly different but yet wholly belonging to each other via DNA and the hope of a sister's connection.
I was brought to tears a couple times because Acevedo's prose cuts concise and deep into emotions that are hard to otherwise speak about. I have been made a fan of this author and cannot wait to read her other work!
