James Nestor’s Breath explores the science and history of breathing, revealing how modern habits have compromised our health. Through research, expert interviews, and self-experimentation, Nestor highlights the benefits of nasal breathing, carbon dioxide retention, and ancient techniques like pranayama.
The book is engaging and well-researched, though some claims rely on anecdotal evidence. While not all conclusions are fully backed by science, Breath offers compelling insights into a simple yet powerful way to improve health. A must-read for those interested in wellness and the science of breathing.
My dad gifted my sisters and I this book for Christmas because he found it to be an interesting book that he wanted us all to read. Like mostly all advice my dad has given me over the years, he was right. This book is incredibly fascinating. Breathing is something we all do and don’t think twice about. For me, I’ve known myself to be a mouth breather. I sleep with my mouth open and when I work out I am always sucking in air through my mouth. What I didn’t know what how much that has an effect on me. This book goes through so much of what James Nestor experienced and discovered in his research on breath and it really was intriguing. I learned so much about something I do every day and one of my biggest takeaways is that it should be more of a conscious action in my life. I’m not much of a non-fiction reader but this is one we should all pick up.
I learned a lot about something that we take for granted and I think that many could benefit from reading this book.
