Hooked from the very beginning to the end. Evie is such a strong character. Things are fast pace with so many unexpected twists. I was literally on the edge of my seat. Maehrer’s writing style is engaging and vivid, making it easy to visualize the fantastical settings and immerse myself in the story. The balance between light-hearted moments and deeper, more emotional scenes is masterfully done, ensuring that the narrative never feels one-dimensional. In addition to the captivating storyline, the book also explores themes of loyalty, identity, and the complexities of morality. It’s a thought-provoking read that offers more than just entertainment; it invites readers to reflect on their own perceptions of right and wrong. Overall, “Assistant to the Villain” is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a good fantasy adventure with a healthy dose of humor and heart. It’s a book that will make you laugh, gasp, and maybe even shed a tear. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

LOVE! This was such a good book! I liked the fantasy of this because it was nothing too crazy but was still fantastical enough (ie, Kingsley my fav!) I loved Evie SO much! I felt a lot of similarities to Feyre which might be why but I think she's such a badass and does not even recognize it! Now Trystan... SO HOT! Talk about a morally gray MMC; he is top notch and I am obsessed! I also think having his POV made me love him even more since we get to see how much he cares for Evie. I wish there was some more romance or even a little spice but I just really wanted some shared feelings between the villain and Evie! I enjoyed the plot twists we got especially when they are setting us up for the next book, because I just love a series! Even though it stinks we have to wait until August for book 2! Plus, I guess I gotta check out the TikToks that this book stemmed from!

I really enjoyed this story. It was funny and lighthearted and everything I was expecting. Despite The Villain wanting go present his world as all black and white, he's definitely not. Great light read.
