I love a good time travel story. Unfortunately, the last few I read were not very good. The last good one I remember reading (sometime last year) was one by Octavia Butler titled Kindred; that was a really good time travel story.

The book summary pretty much lays out the first half of the story, so I won’t repeat any of that. While the book summary indicates Joe is assisted by his therapist, Alexia, it’s nearly at the halfway point before she begins to help Joe. It’s Joe’s friends Vinnie (LOVE Vinnie) and Mark who help him in the beginning.

The second half of the story brings in Alexia and her assistance in helping Joe make his “jumps”. Every trip back brings a somewhat urgency to the story that had me hanging on the edge of what has happening. This intensity kept me engrossed in the story. The ending was a tear-jerker and bittersweet in a couple of ways.

I like Joe’s character; he’s got a dry and witty sense of humor that I find amusing. He has just the right amount of smart@$$ with just a tad of snark to make many of his social interactions witty and amusing rather than awkward and uncomfortable. The storyline was also interesting enough to compel me to continue with the series. If for nothing else to see how that cliffhanger plays out.
