The novel An Unsuitable Job for a Woman by the late British Writer P.D. James is a mystery involving the character of Cordelia Gray. Gray works as a private eye who works for a private eye named Bernie Pryde, who owns a private eye agency named Pryde’s Detective Agency, which is based in London, United Kingdom (James 14). Pryde is a frustrated former police detective whose small business the Pryde’s Detective Agency is in financial trouble. At the beginning of An Unsuitable Job for a Woman, Bernie Pryde is found dead. Bernie Pryde is founded dead by Grey. Pryde has committed suicide. Cordelia Grey inherits the Pryde’s Detective Agency. The title of the novel comes various from the phrase that many of the characters in the novel tell Cordelia Grey when the characters find out that her profession is as a private eye. The book was written in the 1970s. The novel is set in the 1970s. The mystery of the novel involves the city of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. I feel like the city of Cambridge was a character in the novel I always heard from mystery readers that P.G. James is a good writer. I felt that P.D. James’ novel, An Unsuitable Job for a Woman, did not disappoint.
