Senhor Jose is a low-grade clerk in the Central Registry of an unnamed city in Portugal. Most of the novel takes place in Senhor Jose's mind, including an obsession with finding an unknown woman.
Not nearly as good as his book Blindness. Same style of writing though, no punctuation, which I think he definately uses for intensity.
Kind of a good story about getting over your fears, but slow moving and the only thing I was looking forward to (or hoping to happen) didn't occur. GRRR.
