Accomplice to the Villain (Assistant and the Villain, 3)

THE INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING SERIES

Once Upon a Time meets The Office in Hannah Nicole Maehrer’s laugh-out-loud viral TikTok series turned novel, about the sunshine assistant to an Evil Villain…and their unexpected romance.

REWARD OFFERED: Apprentice to The Villain wanted for treason (light), magical property damage (alleged), and one incident involving a weaponized scone (accurate). Frequently seen with a grumpy frog (crowned, judgmental). Answers to “Evie” or “Stop that.”

Evie Sage didn’t mean to become the right-hand woman to the kingdom’s most terrifying villain. One minute, she was applying for an entry-level position that promised “light paperwork and occasional beheadings,” and the next, she was knee-deep in magical mayhem, murder plots, and an entirely inappropriate crush on her brooding, sharp-jawed, walking disaster of a boss.

Now, with a magical prophecy unraveling, assassins showing up in the break room, and a suspicious amount of frogs wearing crowns, Evie has to figure out how to survive her job without setting the kingdom on fire—or her dignity, which is hanging by a very sarcastic thread.

Being evil-adjacent was never part of the five-year plan. But then again…neither was falling for The Villain.

A magical office comedy with grumpy bosses, snarky frogs, and definitely-not-feelings.

The Assistant and the Villain series is best enjoyed in order.

I am less amazed by this third novel, yet still anticipating the 4th. It feels like the author is trying to pair off everyone & that feels like a bit much, despite this being a romance novel. Then again, romance is not my usual genre. It came up because of magic and characters mostly in their 20s, plus a bit of mystery. Although this third installment is more predictable than others. I got it because I had 2 free audiobooks available & the title of the first intrigues me. I kept going because I love Evie as a character. Then again big reveal feels stupid to me. I mean, who cares who is destined to be the hero & what the prophesy says or fate demands? The past behavior doesn’t mesh with it, and Tristan & his mother made choices based on the idea that he is a villain. If I believed in destiny & fate a bit more, maybe it would feel different . . . More important. . . I’m glad I read it, but only so I could keep up with the story line.

Amazing good time!! I’m in awe with all that happened but now I’m left with so many questions since I thought this was a trilogy. BUT it was confirmed a 4th book is coming out. Thank goodness because I would’ve been so mad! I’m super excited to see all the characters again and man the slowest burn in a series ever!!! We have been waiting a long time for this!! So happy we got that storyline told. Absolutely loved this book and it had me laughing throughout it all. Also got my physical copy today so I’m super excited!! 🥰
