A Promised Land

In the stirring, highly anticipated first volume of his presidential memoirs, Barack Obama tells the story of his improbable odyssey from young man searching for his identity to leader of the free world, describing in strikingly personal detail both his political education and the landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency—a time of dramatic transformation and turmoil.

Reading this 1st volume, realizing how much went on in President Obama’s first term in office, I could have read much more, and can’t wait for the 2nd volume. I read this in conjunction with Michelle Obama’s memoir and it made for some very interesting comparisons and contrasts. President Obama’s memoir deftly translates the difficulties and complexities, triumphs and heartbreaks of the most demanding job in the United States.

An autobiography. Interesting listen. I enjoyed listed to Obama about his life. I found it fascinating to learn about his life and his decisions. While I did not agree with him on all his decisions (continued wars and drone warfare), I di find it fascinating to learn about his life and decision making process.

So glad I selected the audio book because it is read by Obama and because it is a super long book. When I finished I felt like I learned so much about politics and also the world...like taking a college course. Obama seems to be an extremely bright yet "regular" guy.

It’s very interesting to hear Obama’s retelling of the impact of his presidency while adding a good amount of candor about his experience leading the country.
