A Prayer for the Crown-Shy: A Monk and Robot Book (Monk & Robot, 2)

A USA Today Bestseller!

“Tender and healing... I’m prescribing a preorder to anyone who has ever felt lost. Stunning, kind, necessary.” —Sarah Gailey on book 1: A Psalm for the Wild-Built

A Prayer for the Crown-Shy is a story of kindness and love from one of the foremost practitioners of hopeful SF.

After touring the rural areas of Panga, Sibling Dex (a Tea Monk of some renown) and Mosscap (a robot sent on a quest to determine what humanity really needs) turn their attention to the villages and cities of the little moon they call home.

They hope to find the answers they seek, while making new friends, learning new concepts, and experiencing the entropic nature of the universe.

Becky Chambers's new series continues to ask: in a world where people have what they want, does having more even matter?

Thoughtful book that makes you think about what is really important in life. In a future world, a monk named Dex meets a robot, Mosscap, who is intensely curious and wants to learn more about humans and what they need. The people ask him to fix things, but he seems to want to know more about other needs. What do people need? Along the way they travel and meet people who are living in different ways. Some are completely without technology. An interesting dilemma occurs when one of Mosscap parts breaks. Should it be fixed or not? How should it be fixed? Fabricated parts are now made using organic materials. Will it really be the same with a different part? Mosscap is very sweet and asks some good questions. It wants to see the turtles at the beach, but not with a lot of people around.

Non-binary Dex is always referred to using plural pronouns which I found irritating since he/she is not plural. I have a hard time wrapping my head around using plural pronouns. Seems like there should be another way to describe them. I’m too old-fashioned to change. However, this is not a criticism of the book, merely a “heads-up” observation I’m giving to others

Just like the first, this is a delightful cozy fantasy novel. I still love Sibling Dex, and Mosscap. Especially as someone whom struggles with depression, knowing that someone out there knows what it feels like is more comforting than I can explain. I would love 90 more of these little novels.
