A Light in the Northern Sea: Denmark's Incredible Rescue of Their Jewish Citizens During WWII

Does what it says. The audiobook narration is irritating as he shouts everything and doesn't properly pronounce the Danish words. The text itself is proper history with quite a few smaller anecdotes. It does feel like it's hard getting an overview as the author does no meta communation. Just story after story. A good historian will tell us how people felt, how groups felt, how the overall mood changed during the war. He points out a few things like southern Jutland welcoming the Germans as they speak German too meanwhile Copenhagen felt like it was an alien attack as they had not seen war before.

There are other Danish resistance books and I'll make sure to read them. This is not really about the Jewish escape. Maybe 25% of the book is about that so we learn very little about this topic. The overall resistance movement is presented here via their actions. Which is a great shame as I think a book about the Jews alone would be amazing. Especially following them step by step even till the day they returned and what they said about all of this. The author really doesn't take time to go into any details or emotional personal narration. For such a heavy subject we needed way more emotions. Yet this reads like a Wiki article. Still good, yet should have been better.
