I read some mixed reviews about this memoir, with the less glowing reviews essentially saying that she was an idiot for going to Somalia in the first place. For me, that was part of the fascination. Her life and travels and emotional state when she made that decision are half the story. It made perfect sense to me when she decided to go, in that context. I understood what she was thinking - and she was not naive.

What follows is one of the most insane examples of mental toughness I have ever read about. With a childhood that somewhat prepared her mentally, I don't know how she did it. I personally am having a hard time processing what she endured, that she lived to tell this story is a miracle.
