A Bridge Across the Ocean

Not at ALL what I was expecting, but in the very best way possible!

Another great historical fiction book by Susan Meissner. This one is about 2 very different young women after the war. Annaliese, a German ballerina, is desperate to escape her past and Simone, the daughter of a French Resistance spy, are both trying to recover from the horror of the war and start a new life in America. They both find their way aboard the RMS Queen Mary with thousands of other war brides crossing the Atlantic to be reunited with their husbands. This fascinating story is interspersed with the present day story of Brette, a young woman in California who has the "gift" of sighting-seeing ghosts or drifters. This was my least favorite part of the story. I think the story of Annaliese and Simone could have been told (and the mystery of what really happened on the Queen Mary solved) without the paranormal part. It does all tie together but I could have done without it.

Not nearly as good as her other book but then again I really am not into books about ghosts. While this was well written I much prefer books that are not about the super natural. If that's your thing then you'd probably love it.
