I like the premise but it feels unbelievable at times because this is taking place in the 60’s with 21st century intersectional feminism ideology. At times, the main character comes off condescending but the people around her was even worse. This is a solid debut novel, albeit unbelievable to me.
Redemptive journey for a strong FMC who overcomes heartbreak and finds joy in the simple pleasures of her new career.
I loved how dedicated this character was to her profession, and I hope science can be available to every person who is interested and motivated to discover.
Bonnie Garmus did a fantastic job creating dimension in this cynical, feminist novel. Not only does Elizabeth Zott have to navigate a predominately male field in the 1950s, she had to navigate love, grief, and unwanted motherhood. Of course Zott loves her daughter, but motherhood was never in her plans. She raises her young girl to be curious and push the bounds of “normalcy”. Through hardship, grit, determination, and a sprinkle of spite, Elizabeth Zott builds a beautiful circle of friends which are now her family. The ending was a perfect closing, but left enough to be desired for a second book if Garmus ever decided to do so. Next up, the TV series!
Great feminist read!! Some of the things written in this story are a little fantastical. Like the dog. The story is peppered with humor, even though the tone is serious and the message is real. I've read and ear read this book and I like both. I would listen to it again on a road trip for sure!
