Award-winning author Amanda Skenandore offers a unique perspective through her books, as she is not only a writer, but also a registered nurse and certified infection preventionist. Her latest historical fiction novel, The Second Life of Mirielle West, is an “extraordinarily timely tale of resilience, inspired by the true story of a Louisiana leprosy hospital where patients were forcibly quarantined,” from the late 1980s to the late 1990s. “Based on little-known history, this book will strike a chord with readers of Fiona Davis, Tracey Lange, and Marie Benedict.”

Skenandore is also the author of The Undertaker’s Assistant and Between Earth and Sky. She currently lives with her husband and their pet turtle in Las Vegas, NV.

Publishers Weekly praised Skenandore for her “diligent research, as well as her empathetic depiction of those subjected to forced medical isolation,” saying it made The Second Life of Mirielle West “a winner.”
