This year, our Bookclubz community read and met to discuss thousands of wonderful books. So, we wanted to ask the ultimate question: what’s the best book club book of 2021? We compiled a list of the top 20 books with the most scheduled meetings on Bookclubz that were published in 2021, and put them in a bracket. See that list below:

  1. The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
  2. The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave
  3. Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  4. The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner
  5. Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
  6. The Push by Ashley Audrain
  7. People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
  8. Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty
  9. The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller
  10. Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
  11. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
  12. The Maidens by Alex Michaelides
  13. The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris
  14. The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse
  15. Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley
  16. The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles
  17. Outlawed by Anna North
  18. Seven Days in June by Tia Williams
  19. Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr
  20. While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams

Then, we opened up the voting to all of you! For a week straight, we hosted the voting on our Instagram stories, making our way through the bracket.

In the triumphs column, there were quite a few upsets: including #19 Cloud Cuckoo Land’s win over #14 The Sanatorium, and #10 Crying in H Mart’s victory over #2 The Last Thing He Told Me, which propelled Michelle Zauner’s memoir into the final four.

But, in the end, there could only be one winner, and after a bitter battle indeed, Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Malibu Rising ranked at #3, lost head to head against the #1 pick, The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. By a slim margin with just 52% of the vote, The Four Winds came out on top.

This may come as no surprise to many of you, due to the novel’s high praise and popularity throughout 2021. For those who haven’t read it, The Four Winds is “a powerful American epic about love and heroism and hope, set during the Great Depression, a time when the country was in crisis and at war with itself, when millions were out of work and even the land seemed to have turned against them.” It was read and loved by over 1700 members of the Bookclubz community, and has an average rating of 8.06 on the website.

Congratulations to Kristin Hannah, and thank you to all the other authors who shared their incredible stories with us this year.

It's fun to see what others are reading. Some good books on this list that my club hasn't read yet. Others I know I want to read. Thank you for compiling it.
