This book is really only about certain families in a certain part of the US. The synopsis of the book states that it is intended to show "the way incarceration has impacted generations of American families" but the book never really reaches a point where I feel like a diversity of experiences are presented. That was disappointing, particularly since I have grandparents that were incarcerated, and I feel like my story was not reflected in this boo...read more

Really good book-plenty of facts and statistics, but told through the stories of families and the incarcerated, which made it very accessible.
