I had high hopes for this book because of how much I loved The Lost Apothecary, so thankfully I was only a tad disappointed. It was hard for me to get into, but once I did it was a pretty good read. One thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the POVs being so erratic, but it’s something that was manageable. Still an incredible author with an incredible ability to tell stories.
The first three quarters of the book were slow and difficult to get through. The last quarter, however, did have a nice payoff. I was annoyed by having the plot explained multiple times, surely, twice is enough. If you like a slow developing murder mystery with unreliable narrators and the occult, this might be the book for you.
The London Seance Society was the first book by Sarah Penner I’ve read. Honestly, I wasn’t all that impressed. This book was more than I bargained for with certain topics and the lack of character development made me angry. I think if I had known about certain aspects prior to reading I wouldn’t have bought it, much less read it.
