What an upgrade compared to our last read! Cordova beautifully depicted common struggles in a Latinx family though a fantasy lens. The elements of fantasy, mystery, & suspense told a great story of a family who is on the receiving end of generational trauma. Fable-like feel to this story full of magical realism. We follow a family summoned to collect their inheritance from a long lived matriarch. Orchidea’s story is revealed in a series of flashbacks which reveal more and more of the magical happenings of this family. All about finding your gifts by being open to possibilities. I enjoyed the pace and rhythm of this story, it really drew me in.
Fun and magical with a little tragedy and vivid imagery. Like a mix of Mexican Gothic, Seven or Eight Deaths of Stella Fortuna, and Stardust.
