This book is stunning. As an audible book, it's like listening to a fable. Anthony Heald does a spectacular job. It starts with a poor young farmer, aged 25, when it is decided it is time for him to take a wife. He purchases a slave girl from a local rich man and the story follows his life to the end, in his 70's.
