Excellent.. I laughed and I cried. I listened to this one, read by the author, I think it's the way to do it. Except that I didn't get to see the drawings...

I don’t think I’ve ever laughed out loud so much for a book. This reminded me so much of my best friend and her sisters growing up on the Rez. and how they joke and how they cry and how they survived. This book was amazing. I highly recommend it.

How many disadvantages can one person overcome? Junior, the narrator of this book, overcomes several disabilities at birth, and then must overcome the physical manifestations of those disabilities (oversize head, lisp, stutter, etc.) for the rest of his life. On top of that he faces the disadvantages that come with being a member of the Spokane Indian tribe: poverty, endemic alcoholism, and general hopelessness.

I thought this book was funny, irreverent, and interesting. There was a lot of children's humor in the book, but I don't think it's a children's book- there was a lot of strange inappropriate things in it- more Young Adult.

Read it in a day was a quick easy, funny but heart punching read. Think it’s an excellent young adult book and great intro into poverty, race and identity.
